Districts and catchment areas
Competition between dealers, shops or outlets of the same formula for pulling the same client in is a waste of time and money. It is therefore convenient to define a district for every outlet, which will be the primary operations area of this outlet. Geodan can provide you with your own district map.
Standard district divisions
There are several standard district divisions available for the Netherlands on the basis of the combination of municipalities, such as the Cebuco map with the distribution areas of regional newspapers, the Chamber of Commerce map with the catchment areas of the Chambers of Commerce, the police region map with police regions, etcetera.
Own districts based on distance or travelling times
It is also possible to make your own district division. This can be achieved by assigning a specific district number to existing areas such as postcodes or municipalities. When this is done, a specific district division can be generated automatically. On your own district map, you can represent your own data by district, maybe in combination with known data such as the number of inhabitants, etc.
Generate districts based on distance or travelling times
If you do not yet have a district division although you have different outlets, an automatic district division can be generated. This will be done on the basis of distance using the Districter, or on the basis of travelling time using the GeoCatch application. This division can be based also on the outlet capacity, so that bigger outlets are assigned a bigger district as compared to the smaller ones.
Catchment areas
When determining district boundaries, different variables can be taken into account as well, such as:
- the potential of a postcode, which is calculated through the demographic composition;
- the presence or absence of competitors near an outlet;
- attraction factors that may influence the flood of clients to your outlet.
