Chamber of Commerce Gooi- and Eemland

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce Gooi- and Eemland must regularly inform entrepreneurs. Using a GIS, the Chamber determines the entrepreneurs who must be informed on municipal spatial planning activities that may have enormous consequences for, for example, accessibility of the companies in certain areas.

Vitally important

Municipal plans may have enormous consequences for some entrepreneurs. For example, in terms of accessibility, possibilities for future expansion, or client visits. One of the Chamber’s tasks is to inform entrepreneurs accordingly. Selecting the relevant entrepreneurs based on the trade register used to be a time-consuming and bothersome job. The Chamber was therefore looking for a way to simplify this process.

Quick selection and information

Geodan has implemented a system which the user can use to draw an area on a map. Then, he can select a certain surrounding area, limiting his selection to the entrepreneurs in one or more lines of business, or to the enterprises of a certain size.

Using this solution, the Chamber can inform the entrepreneurs more quickly. At the same time, this solution facilitates interrelations between the place of business of an entrepreneur and events occurring in the public space, such as modifications in zoning plans.

MapInfo and GeoStreets

The solution implemented by Geodan at the Chamber is composed of two standard components: MapInfo Professional and GeoStreets. In addition, a MapBasic application was developed so that the user, through a wizard interface, can mark certain choices and draw an area on a map. The result is an Excel file that is the basis for a mailmerge.
