Mobile solution for inspections
In many water-related processes, the use of mobile GIS is very efficient and effective. For supporting and handling the inspection, Geodan has developed a mobile GIS application.
Customer & need
Several water boards carry out annual controls with a large number of employees to check whether the watercourses have been duly maintained. If not, the respective owner will be notified and, if necessary, administrative enforcement measures will be applied. In the old situation with analogue maps, it required a lot of effort to send all these notifications on time. Besides, errors were commonplace.
Solution
For supporting this process, Geodan IT has developed a mobile GIS solution. Using a PDA, it is now possible to register infringements on-site based on the current location, which is defined with a GPS receiver. After the inventory process, the information on the infringement from the different regions can be combined through the network and the letters can be generated automatically, including the corresponding map.
After a certain period of time, with the aid of the GPS location definition, it is possible to easily surf to an infringement and verify whether the maintenance has meanwhile been done as required.
Functionality
- Enter and modify infringements with spatial analyses for filling in the owner in rem and large maintenance area;
- Enter and modify the inspected watercourse, particularly useful for the pre-inspection;
- During the re-inspection, surf to infringements and register the result;
- Prepare standard letters per owner, including the corresponding map.
Technical aspects
The mobile application is developed in ArcPad application builder and uses generic entry formats. The application for generating letters works in ArcMap 9 and is developed in ArcObjects.
