Process support at the Dutch water board Brabantse Delta

For some projects, the customer has insufficient knowledge, experience or capacity to guide his projects. In this case, Geodan’s consultants will offer a solution for expert support.

Customer & need

Because one employee left and there was no one with specific knowledge to replace him, the Dutch water board Brabantse Delta needed extra support. Two projects were about to be started. One project was related to support of the inspections with a mobile GIS application. The other project focused on a quality boost for the spatial information system within the water board.

Solution

The solution was found in that a Geodan consultant accompanied and guided the water board's own project managers. For developing the mobile GIS of the inspection an action plan was prepared, in conjunction with the project manager and users, for having an operational application by December 2005. The time pressure was considerable. By systematically developing this action plan, in the end the activity was very successful.

Quality boost to the spatial information system

For carrying out the quality boost of the spatial information system, the first step was development of a project plan. The budget still had to be raised. Besides research for a new system, an important component of this project plan was that the solution was to go beyond the system itself. Both the internal and external need for data and quality have been studied. This research has resulted in various recommendations that boost the quality of the overall spatial information system.
