The other side of the coin is that the development is not guaranteed; if there are not enough interested developers, a project can ‘bleed dry’. Why is Geodan involved?
A very active and multifaceted community of open source developers is hard at work in the field of Geo ICT. There are numerous mature products in the field of Desktop-GIS, webmapping, Spatial ETL and freestanding libraries and components. Geodan aims to maintain an overview of the total software and data landscape for Geo ICT applications, and recognises the importance of open source software in that field. And it cuts two ways: we can advise our customers on software and components according to a broad-based orientation and an independent position, while at the same time remaining in constant contact with the pioneers in Geo ICT software development.
