5-digit postcode map of The Netherlands
The 5-digit postcode map of the Netherlands is composed of areas whereby the five first characters per area are the same. The areas are generated automatically within the 'natural’ 4-digit postcode boundaries.
Version 2008
The total number of 5-digit postcode areas is 32,083 in 2008. As is the case in the 4-digit postcode data set The Netherlands, no post office boxes are included in the 5-digit postcode data set The Netherlands either. The 2008 version is prepared with the aid of the postcodes of Falkplan•Andes.
Content data set
Postcode map layers:
- 5-, 4-, 3- and 2-digit postcode areas
- 5- and 4-digit postcode points
Administrative map layers and aggregates:
- Municipal boundaries, provinces, COROP regions, Economic Geographical Areas, Chamber of Commerce regions, nodal regions, police regions.
Reference map layers:
- Buildings, main roads, major rivers and place points.
CBS (Statistics Netherlands) attribute data:
- Population by age, gender and country of origin at PC4-level.
Generated areas
The 5-digit postcode areas are automatically generated areas. This option was chosen because the postcode points of which the first 5 digits are the same, are not always located nearby. When 6-digit postcodes are combined into PC5-areas, it becomes clear that many PC5-areas are composed of several ‘islands’. This provides an untidy map image. This is why Geodan has developed a 5-digit postcode area map, in which the PC5-areas are generated automatically around the central point of the true PC5-points. This generates a schematically structured PC5-area map that is apt for showing the data from a thematic viewpoint.
